Huawei E220

Huawei E220 to jeden z modemów oferowanych w usłudze Blueconnect, czy iPlus. Do transmisji modem wykorzystuje technologie HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS i podłączany jest przez złącze USB. Modem ten pod starymi kernelami (starszy niż 2.6.20-rc2) zachowuje się jak nośnik danych ("mass storage device"). Kernel w wersji 2.6.20-rc2 lub nowszej ignoruje opcję nośnika danych (modem zawiera w sobie oprogramowanie dla MS Windows i Mac OS X) i odpowiednio wykrywa modem. Odnośnie kernela wymagane są następujące standardowe komponenty:

Każda dystrybucja powinna mieć odpowiednie moduły. Po podłączeniu modemu w dmesg powinny pojawić się komunikaty tego typu ("GSM modem"):

Jeżeli wszystko przebiegło zgodnie z planem modem gotowy jest do połączenia się z internetem (np. za pomocą NetworkManagera w wersji 0.7 lub nowszej). W przeprowadzonych testach nie udało mi się połączyć za pomocą Global UMTS (podejżewam że stosuje błędne skrypty, plus trzeba czekać 6 minut aż zacznie łączyć wersja darmowa). W przypadku UMTSmon problemów nie było. Wystarczyło w profilu włączyć "noaut" (karta bez PINu) i usunąć "replace default route" jako że PPP tego nie rozpoznawało. Nie trzeba było zmieniać rozpoznania karty z CD-ROMu na modem.
